Enugu Rangers International Football Club on Monday left their Coal City base for Kaduna to keep a date with their next opponents in this year’s Federation Cup tie, Crown FC of Oshogbo, in a quarterfinals cracker.
The Flying Antelopes, who are riding on the crest of their victory over Abia Warriors of Umuahia in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), departed Enugu in high spirits hoping to scale the hurdle posed by the Oshogbo-based outfit to further their chances of progressing in this year’s Federation Cup competition.
Speaking exclusively with Daily Sports on Monday, Rangers Media Officer, Foster Chime, expressed the hope that the former African champions would emerge victorious today at the end of the 90 minutes hostilities.
Said Chime: “We are on our way to Kaduna to keep a date with Crown FC of Oshogbo who are our next opponents in this year’s Federation Cup competition.
“It is our hope that we will be able to overcome the threat posed by Crown. Having reached this stage of the competition, we are aware that any team that has made it to this stage deserves the respect of all.
“We are not in any illusion about the quality of Crown FC but one good thing about the thing is that our boys are in high spirit for the match tomorrow (today, Tuesday, July 12, 2016).
“Inasmuch as we respect them, it is our hope that we will be able to scale through the hurdle they pose for us in order for us to forge ahead in the competition. Therefore, it is our desire to come out victorious at the end of hostilities tomorrow in Kaduna.”
Daily Sports recalls that Enugu Rangers on Friday defeated Abia Warriors of Umuahia in an Oriental derby in Enugu to shore up their points in this year’s NPFL to 43, which has placed the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuani Boys in the second position on the league table. Though Rangers have the same points with league leaders Wikki Tourists, the Coal City side boast inferior goals.
Their victory over the hard-fighting Abia Warriors serves as a morale booster for the Imama Amapakabo-tutored side who will be firing from all cylinders to ensure that they secure the needed victory to forge ahead in the competition.
