Lookman breaks Atalanta goals record

After scoring his 13 league goal in Atalanta’s 3-1 win over Cremonese in a Serie A fixture played at the Stadio Giovanni Zini on Saturday, Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman becomes the first striker to reach that milestone in his first season for the Nerazzurri in 70 years.

The Nigerian international last weekend ended his seven-game goals drought when he netted Atalanta’s third goal over Cremonese.

The 25-year-old winger came on in the 46th minute for Luis Muriel and finally found the net for the first time since January, taking his goals to 13 in 27 league matches.

The former Everton striker has also been impressive for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side and has formed an important part of the team.

Overall, the winger has scored a total of 15 goals in 29 matches for the Nerazzurri across all competitions this season.

According to statistical source Stats Perform – Opta, the former Leicester City winger is the first Atalanta player to net 13 goals in his first Serie A season since Poul Rasmussen in 1952/ 953.

“With Saturday’s goal against Cremonese, Ademola Lookman became the rookie to have scored the most in this league.

“The Nigerian striker has in fact reached 13 goals, detaching Kvaratskhelia of Napoli, and moving to third place overall in the scorers chart.

“The last Atalanta player to score at least 13 goals at this point of the season on his debut in Serie A was Poul Rasmussen in 1952/1953.”
