Udeze, Dosu knock Eagles, Peseiro after Guinea-Bissau win

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 28, 2023

Despite Super Eagles’ 1-0 win over Guinea Bissau’s Wild Dogs on Monday in a 2023 AFCON qualifier, ex-internationals Dosu Joseph and Ifeanyi Udeze, as well as fans have expressed disappointment over the team’s performance in both legs, while questioning the technical competence of Jose Peseiro to manage the Eagles, The PUNCH reports.

Nigeria suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their first leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Friday but struggled to earn a win through a penalty converted by winger Moses Simon in the 30th minute in the reverse fixture.

Olympic gold medallist Dosu raised questions about Paseiro and the way he has managed the Eagles after the team’s poor displays under his tutelage.

“All we need now is to get the victory, they are playing to qualify for the 2023 AFCON. We want a coach that will coach our national team and give our boys the best, we watched today’s (Monday) game and we asked ourselves, ‘is it the same Super Eagles we used to know?’ As for Paseiro, the NFF needs to do something,” Dosu told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“When he was employed they said he was the best man for the job, we have seen it, he has played eight matches, and lost four matches, the records show. Nigerians have been clamouring for him to say goodbye. We want our national team to play good football and qualify for tournaments. Striker Victor Osimhen has been giving us joy each time he plays for Napoli and the rest of the players for their clubs, but when they come to represent Nigeria, they struggle.”

Also, Former Super Eagles defender, Udeze, said, “I am not satisfied with the Super Eagles performance against Guinea-Bissau in the return leg, if not for Bright Osayi-Samuel, who finds his way to the opponent box, and we got a penalty.

“We scored from the penalty spot, we did not score from open play. We still have a lot of work to do, but the most important thing is that we won the game.

“The team needs to improve in their style of play. We want our team to play good football and win well, play with confidence and create lots of chances, not just win through penalty. If Paseiro cannot do that, he needs to go.”

Some fans also vented their anger on social media after the Eagles laboured to victory against the 118th ranked Wild Dogs.

“Passiero is clueless, he is supposed to be a veterinary doctor, he doesn’t inspire any confidence on the touch line.”

Olanrewaju Sulaimon added, ”Chukwueze that destroyed Barca and Real Madrid defence playing like fowl here.”

SHAYE also hit hard at Chukwueze. “That guy is useless.. zero output since the game started !! But the coach sees him as the “Messi” of Nigerian football.”

BoyFromDownTown added, “When I know say the coach na big mumu..na when he invite only 4 midfielders.”

“Does the super eagles have a coach,” Harifarta tweeted.

VICTOR!!! added, “Nigeria coach is low budget graham potter”

The Eagles returned to the top of Group A of the qualifiers with nine points after four games, while Guinea-Bissau are second with seven points, and Sierra Leone, who beat Sao Tome and Principe 2-0 on Wednesday, are third with five points.

The next round of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers is in June, when Nigeria travel to Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau take on bottom-place Sao Tome and Principe.
