Victor Osimhen has been nominated for Serie A Player of the Month award for February, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Napoli striker his teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lecce’s Federico Baschirotto, Angel Di Maria from Juventus, and Aleksei Miranchuk from Torino for the award.
The Nigerian scored five goals in four games for the Partenopei who currently lead the Serie A with an 18-point lead over second-placed Inter in the month under review.
He is also Serie A’s leading scorer in 2022-23 with 19 goals in 20 appearances and has found the net in each of the last eight league games.
They have won the last four Serie A matches without conceding and could keep five consecutive clean sheets for the first time since February 2019 under Carlo Ancelotti.
Meanwhile, former Lazio and Napoli striker Bruno Giordano believes Osimhen is the best header in the world only Cristiano Ronaldo is on the same level with the Nigerian.
The 66-year-old a product of Lazio academy, spent nine years at the Stadio Olimpico before joining Napoli in 1985 where he played alongside Diego Maradona and Antonio Careca in the legendary attacking trio renamed MA-GI-CA, winning the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia in 1986-87 said,”Headers. Right now, nobody is better than Osimhen in the world, only Cristiano Ronaldo is on the same level.”
“Napoli are favourite for the Serie A title and if they continue like this, they will celebrate the title with six or seven games to spare,” he told Il Mattino.
Giordano was Serie A’s Capocannoniere in the 1978-79 campaign with 19 goals and Osimhen is Serie A’s leading scorer in 2022-23 with 19 goals in 20 appearances and has found the net in each of the last eight league games.
