Manchester United to “break bank” for Pogba

By Daily Sports on July 8, 2016

Forget breaking the British transfer record for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba—Manchester United may end up paying a world record fee.

Pogba is wanted by new United manager Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese’s fourth signing of the summer.

But according to the Daily Mail, United will have to fork out £100 million ($129.8 million) for the star, currently shining for France at UEFA Euro 2016.

That would blow out of the water the £85 million ($110.3 million) Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013.

United’s situation is complicated by Madrid’s desire to land Pogba, too, with the player’s agent Mino Raiola confirming in June that informal talks had begun to take him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

That could explain the apparently exorbitant sums United is attempting to spend in its bid to land Pogba, with a contract worth £300,000 in the offing for the 23-year-old, who only left United in 2012 following growing frustration with his lack of playing time under Sir Alex Ferguson.
