Victor Osimhen took his tally to 13 in the Serie A this season after he sealed Napoli’s win over Salernitana on Saturday. The partenopei scored in each half to secure a comfortable win in a local derby.
Napoli broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time after Andre-Frank Anguissa combined with Mario Rui to pull back from the by-line, as Di Lorenzo took a touch and smashed the finish off the underside of the crossbar.
Straight after the restart it was 2-0, as the Nigerian striker tapped in a rebound shot after Eljif Elmas right-foot strike from outside the box bounced off the far post, into his path to make it a fourth goalscoring league match in five, and put himself four goals clear of his nearest chasers in the league’s scoring charts.
The former Lille striker is two goals shy from becoming the Africa’s highest scorer in the Serie A in a season.
Salernitana’s best chance of a consolation came when Piątek’s strike was tipped onto the post by Meret with ten minutes to go.
Salernitana’s sorry return of just two points in their last seven leaves I Granata with the second-worst points tally in Serie A during this spell.
In contrast to their evening’s hosts, Luciano Spalletti and Napoli are walking on air with a 12-point lead as they target a first Scudetto in more than three decades, on the back of their best-ever first half to a 38-game top-flight season.
