Nottingham Forest are nervously sweating over the fitness of Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of their Premier League clash against Leicester City on Saturday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Awoniyi was replaced in the 71st minute after he scored the winner for Nottingham Forest in their 1-0 win over Southampton last weekend- their first away league win of the season which moved the Reds out of the relegation zone.
The Nigerian striker has missed Forest last two games due to an unspecified injury but Reds’ coach Steve Cooper is hoping for good news on the former Union Berlin striker and defender Willy Boly.
“Taiwo didn’t make it for this one,”Cooper told NottinghamshireLive.
“We’re working away with him for the weekend. We’ve got our fingers crossed on that one.
Ahead of Saturday’s (today) game at the City Ground, both teams have injury problems with the treatment rooms filling up. City are expected to be without a number of players for the match, there will be big doubts over Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who is due back in training on Friday, James Maddison, with no timescale on his absence and Dennis Praet.
City will definitely be without long-term absentees James Justin, Jonny Evans, Ricardo Pereira, Ryan Bertrand and Boubakary Soumare who has been ruled out for six weeks.
Forest will also be without Moussa Niakhate, Jesse Lingard, Giulian Biancone, Omar Richards and Cheikhou Kouyate. But Steve Cooper will also be sweating over the fitness of two key players.
Defender Willy Boly picked up an ankle injury in the penalty shootout victory over Wolves and was spotted with an ice pack on the affected area after making his way off the pitch in the second half. Striker Taiwo Awoniyi has also missed the two cup games over the last week due to an injury he picked up in Forest’s last Premier League game against Southampton.
