Chelsea Urged To Gamble With CR7

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 25, 2022

Former Chelsea player Glen Johnson believes the Blues should make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window after the forward has his contract with Manchester United terminated.

Speaking with Midnite, Johnson said: “I would take Cristiano Ronaldo at Chelsea for six months, absolutely. Ronaldo has been the second or third-best player we’ve seen in our generation. If Ronaldo wants to be back in the same rank as Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi or Neymar, he needs to improve.”

Ronaldo left Old Trafford in disgrace after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan just before the World Cup began and the Premier League paused.

The 37-year-old had lost his starting spot at United under new boss Erik Ten Hag and failed to get a move last summer when Chelsea were linked. Todd Boehly had reportedly been intrigued by a move for the Portuguese icon after meeting with his agent Jorge Mendes, but firm disagreement from Thomas Tuchel shut the move down.

Although Johnson cites Ronaldo, Chelsea appear to have gone in the opposite direction, signing 20-year-old David Datro Fofana from Molde ahead of January and tying up a deal for Christopher Nkunku who will join next summer from RB Leipzig.
