Peseiro: Portugal Boss Faces Selection Dilemma

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 10, 2022

Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro has revealed that his friend Fernando Santos faces a selection dilemma ahead of Portugal’s quarterfinal clash against African side Morocco at the 2022 World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo and the young Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos are giving Santos a selection headache.
Santos decided to bench Ronaldo in the round of 16 clash against Switzerland and it proved to be a masterstroke, with his replacement Ramos netting his first hat-trick at international level and also provided an assist.
On the international stage, the 21-year-old was an unknown quantity outside of his native Portugal until November 17 when he registered a goal and an assist after coming off the bench in Portugal’s 4-0 win over the Super Eagles.
Ronaldo started all the matches played by Portugal in the group stage but looked a shadow of himself, netting just once from the penalty spot against Ghana.
“it is not easy to put Cristiano back on the bench, just as it is not easy to put Gonçalo on the bench now, ” Peseiro, who is in Qatar, told Portuguese sports daily A Bola.
Peseiro attended Morocco’s shootout win over Spain in the round of 16, and also watched his native Portugal thrash Switzerland.
