Harry Kane says he’s taking inspiration from Erling Haaland’s goalscoring exploits after being blown away by the Manchester City frontman in the early stages of the 2022/23 season. The Norwegian has proven to be the benchmark after rattling in 11 Premier League goals in just seven matches – plus three more in the Champions League.
Kane is usually a slow burner due to his patchy August record but this term he has started fast, netting six goals in his opening seven league matches.
However, that has somewhat been overshadowed by striker rival Haaland, who is setting new standards as he looks to blow away Alan Shearer and Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring records from an individual campaign.
The England captain said on City’s new signing: “Especially in the Premier League when you’re coming up against the best strikers, it pushes every player around you to be better.
“Everyone’s talking about Haaland because he’s had an incredible start to the season, so rightly so. As you know me, I don’t focus on too many other people, I focus on myself and what I can do.
“We’ve had a good start to the season with Spurs, we probably haven’t played our best football but that’s a good sign to be where we are knowing we can improve. And it’s probably one of the best starts I’ve had in the Premier League.”
Tottenham currently sit third in the Premier League table having picked up 17 points from their opening seven matches.
Spurs are yet to taste defeat in the Premier League – winning five games and drawing their other two – as they sit just one point adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Kane revealed the secret to his own personal success has come in the form of his own personal fitness coach.
