League leaders, Wikki Tourists lost 0-2 to Plateau United at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos, Plateau State on match day 24 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). This result however did not affect their position in the NPFL log, as they remain top of the table.
Two goals from Daddy Francis, and Anayo Ogbonna gave Plateau United the victory against the Bauchi-based side, in a game fully dominated by the home side. Substitute Francis broke the deadlock after he sweetly controlled the ball inside the penalty area and fired past goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu.
Kano Pillars FC destroyed Abia Warriors 5-0 in a packed Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano to maintain their third place on the log. Rabiu Ali scored from the spot in ten minutes, Rasaq Adegbite made it 2-0 for Pillars, and Bala Zakka scored the third to end the first 45 minutes 3-0. In second half, Rabiu Ali got a second in 82 minutes, before Nafiu Kabuga scored a blinder on 90 minutes to complete the rout.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars defeated visiting Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM FC) 2-0 to continue the miserable away form of the Olukoya Boys. Dele Olorundare scored two goals in two minutes, the first being a penalty on 76 minutes, to dsink the visitors from Lagos.
Ikorodu United did not play at the Onikan Stadiun against Enyimba, as the game was postponed.
As the NPFL table stands right now, Wikki Tourist sit on top of the table with 41 points after 23 matches, Enugu Rangers come second with 39 points after 23, matches, and Rivers United get 38 points after 22 matches.
At the lower part of the table, Ikorodu United are 19th with 15 points after 21 matches. Plateau United stay at 18th position with 26 points after 23 matches, and Heartland FC are at the 17th spot, also with 26 points afte 23 games (but with a higher goal difference of -4, as against Plateau United’s -6).
Daily Sports recalls that the 20th team, Giwa FC, has since been suspended from the league for failing to honour three matches at a row.
