Akinwunmi promises to restore Nigeria’s glory if elected NFF president

First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi, has promised to restore the country’s glory in football if he becomes NFF president.

Akinwunmi, in Abuja yesterday, declared his intention to contest for the NFF presidency at the Federation’s general elections in Benin on September 30.

He said the time has come for Nigerian football to be great again, adding that his aim is to create an inclusive, vibrant and efficient football ecosystem system from the grassroots to develop a sustainable national culture and provide pathways to success.

“I want to be more present as president of NFF because I believe that the next football federation president must be somebody who understands and has actually invested his energy and vision into grassroots football.

“I am coming to restore those glorious days when Nigeria used to be respected in the comity of football-playing nations in Africa and the world.

“I will give priority to grassroots development to find a replacement for the ageing players so that no gap will be left in the process of growing the sport again,” he said.

He also said he will focus on a good marketing drive to support the various national teams and clubs both for local and international competitions.
