By By Victor Enyinnaya and Francisca Ekechukwu on July 14, 2022

Today, Super Falcons of Nigeria; defending Queens of this Women football summit will square up against Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroun in a make or mar, fight to finish nitty-gritty quarter- final space at the ongoing Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in King Mohammed Stadium Casablanca, Morocco.

The Nigerian team haven come thus far knows what is at stake against arch rival, Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroun. Recall that Cameroun side in this all important won’t give anything for chance. The Super Falcons team knows this is a one –off match or if you like winner takes all stuff and therefore there will be no dull moment immediately the referee signals the kick-off of proceeding for the day.

A talk of the town games between both countries date back to even the male teams are always at each others throat all in the bid to get great pound of flesh of one another. Such has translated into women version and the space has always been choked and tension always at freezing point.

Super Falcons players must be told in clearer language the danger to indulge in complacency syndrome as there won’t be a second chance. A winner must emerge to advance to the next stage, (semi-final) stage. Nigerians have the capacity to come out tops despite the fact that I won’t be tea party due to the day’s opponent’s formidability.

Super Falcons must have it vividly written at the back and even the front of their minds that the Indomitable Lionesses will be all out for revenge mission. The Cameroonians’ will throw everything into this grudge game to ensure Super Falcons are turned back. The onions is therefore on the Super Falcons to stoutly resist that threat and the usual intimidation always associated with every Cameroonian team

As defending champions the Nigerians must prove beyond every reasonable doubt that it won’t be an easy task from their desperate day’s opponent as such has been the norm. It is however instructive to note that Super Falcons players have vowed to keep the flag flying as they are already now more than ever before  to accomplish the team’s much expected 10th round win in Africa’s premier Women football competition.

Both teams have come a slong way in their battle for supremacy over each other gamely. However, Super Falcons squad has had upper hand most painful being defeating the Indomitable Lionesses right in front of their fans to complete her superiority on the homers, recalled the 8th time win in Yaoundé.

No doubt, it will be a difficult encounter as every space will be contested for in the quest for mistake to be made and possible goal (s) scored. It is against that inflammable backgrounds therefore that analysts, pundits and bookmakers that are too familiar with African Women football believe it won’t just be like a quarter-final game but would have the atmosphere and trappings of a final match because of the caliber of teams slugging it out to grab a ticket for further advancement in this edition of the tournament.

The two sides are aware that it is not only the semi-final ticket on the card, but also prestige. Fans will cheer and cheer as much exciting moments, fireworks and sundry would ensue for supremacy sake. Again, there will be no much chances in the now or never game.

Head or tail, it won’t be kid groves for both teams. The best of women football will no doubt be displayed as close marking, vigilance, safe playing;  and guiding meaningfully their rears may be the order of day. One thing is sure and that is any team that fails to utilize her few chances that will come their way no matter how very slim one it may be which would hardly come in this encounter of wits and browns, as there will be anticipated discipline/stingy spaces to be created by both teams in the top class showdown.

Though, both are no new customer to each other however, they will approach the encounter with utmost caution and alertness of the first order. The stadium will be electrified today as these best of the teams in African Women football war in this tug of hostilities football duel has ever witnessed.

Go Super Falcons, Go for early goals!!
