Football Election Matters! FG Vs NFF: Who Bleaks First?

By By Victor Enyinnaya on July 11, 2022

It is too intriguing watching from the observer’s position the current unfolding scenario trending between the authority of the executive committee board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on one hand and that of the Sports Ministry representing the Federal Government on the other hand over election matters billed for September to form a brand new NFF executive committee board.

It would be recalled that the tenure of the current committee will expire this year. Truth is that it has become a very naughty issue as the sitting board has been playing out different tricks/tones that are geared towards drawing the hand of the clock back.

The board has gone to the extent of using its contacts in FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland to attempt to obtain an extension of at least one year in what FIFA was told, to enable it trash out court case (s) instituted against it (NFF) and sundry.

To cut the long tales by NFF high command short, when that was leaked to the Sports Ministry, the Minister, Sunday Dare acted promptly notified and assured FIFA of the commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria that all the Court case (s) against the country’s football governing body (NFF) would be instantly withdrawn to pave for a smooth statutorily compliant election coming up later in September.

The bubble busted last week between the dramatis personae i.e. between NFF and Sports Ministry/FG both traded words accusing one another of one infraction or the other. NFF further pointedly said that the Federal Government is interfering in affairs of football which FIFA frowns at strictly.

However Federal government through the Sports Ministry said without mincing words that elections into various executive committee offices of the body must be held in September no matter the level of blackmail and playing to the gallery by the NFF.

As at the time of putting this page to bed, President of the NFF Amaju Pinnick is still talking tough giving conditions that must be met before Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body would be convened.

He took a swipe at those he describes as idlers and gossips who always engage in fluke against his regime and insisted that until NFF Lawyers were officially written that all the cases have been withdrawn from the Courts otherwise it will be extremely difficult to convene AGM, he vows.

The Ministry also noted vividly that it has directed NFF to ensure those having cases against it (NFF) are withdrawn and also settle such out of Court to enable preparations for election to hold as scheduled.

Dare also added that all other steps/processes needed to be taken for smooth polls in September must be taken as his office will not tolerate any excuse for failure, as all these would be communicated also to FIFA for its information too, therefore due process must be strictly followed.

As these and more were ongoing, Chairman NFF Disciplinary Committee, Samuel Ahmadu threw in the towel thanking the NFF President and executive committee members for opportunity given him to serve.

I plead to our dear readers that we leave the desperation of Pinnick Amaju led NFF executive committee on this note and keep our fingers crossed as events unfold. Trust, we will like as tradition bring to you more in-depth of these, only in your favourite Daily Sports-www.dailysportsng.com
