Tuchel ‘confident’ over Chelsea takeover

By Daily Sports Nigeria on May 6, 2022

Thomas Tuchel says he is confident Chelsea’s takeover will be completed without problems, after positive developments over the club’s situation.

Chelsea remain under restrictions following the sanctions placed on owner Roman Abramovich, though there has been progress on a potential takeover with a consortium fronted by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly understood to have been selected as the preferred bidder.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Wolves this weekend, the German provided a positive update on the situation at Stamford Bridge.

“I’ve been told last week that we have a preferred bidder and things are going forward,” Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference.

“It’s a pretty important week for the club, but I was fully focused on the pitch. But after what I heard last week, I’m confident.

“Clearance is always the best, because when the situation is clear you can take actions, make judgements, take actions. Otherwise you’re in a passive role, and this is what we are right now.”

Tuchel also provided an update on the fitness of his squad and confirmed N’Golo Kante, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ben Chilwell and Jorginho all remain missing this weekend.

He did, however, suggest there could be an opportunity for Romelu Lukaku who was an unused substitute last weekend and has failed to score a league goal in 2022.

“Always I want him to be an important part,” Tuchel said on Lukaku.

“Right now he is an important part of the squad next season. There are no players set to depart or improvements because of the situation.

“We signed a big player, we still have a big player. He didn’t come on (in the 1-0 defeat at Everton last weekend) because we had three subs and had to use one for Jorginho at half time. He trained very well and maybe starts tomorrow.”
