Enyimba striker, Mfon Udoh has said his side will make up for the matchday 1 loss to the Egyptian side, Zamalek SC at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
The People’s Elephant will be the guests of the PSL side next Wednesday’s Caf Champions League matchday 2 group fixture clash at the Lucas ‘Masterpiece’ Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
Shockingly, the Nigerian champions lost 0-1 to Zamalek in matchday 1 clash in Port Harcourt on Sunday while Mamelodi Sundowns stunned the Algerian giants, Entente Sportive de Setif (ESS) 2-0 in Algiers to pave the upcoming clash.
Udoh said the loss to Zamalek is a timely wakeup call his side needed to re-launch themselves back to winning way in Africa’s top-flight clubs competition.
“Of course, there is hope for Enyimba to claim one of the tickets in Group B of the Caf Champions League.
“The loss to Zamalek SC is a wakeup call on us to redouble our efforts in subsequent matches in the group.
“We are not frightened that our next group’s opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns went to Algeria to win 2-0 against ES Setif.
“We hope to make up for the loss to Zamalek at Mamelodi Sundowns, we will certainly pick the three points at stake.
“Once we win the three points at Mamelodi there will be no looking back in other matches on the group’s calendar.
“There is nothing to worry about we are on the right course to repeat the performances of 2003 and 2004,” said the former Akwa United marksman to supersport.com.
Enyimba together with Zamalek, Mamelodi Sundown and ES Setif make up Group B that will see the topmost two progress to the semifinals of Africa’s elite clubs competition. (supersports.com)
