Former Africa Footballer of the Year and member of the Super Eagles AFCON winner, Victor Ikpeba has emphatically restated that George Findi is eminently qualified to be appointed into the Super Eagles technical crew as one of its assistant coaches by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and slams the critics of such action which was in the right direction.
Ikpeba in an interview posited that Findi haven played the game at the highest level in the club sides and was also one of the critical members of the national team is a round peg in around hole and any .criticism on his place in the team’s coaching crew is doing so purely out of prejudice.
“You see, I will keep saying that those pointing at George Findi’s inclusion as one of the coaches for the Super Eagles are not only arm chair critics but also idlers of the first and worst order. He is qualified to be there. He is a young coach who also has his coaching certificate to show. What else is this group of people looking for? Mere trivial if you look at it critically,” he queries.
The one time Prince of Monaco a nick name his numerous fan extended to him during his active and extensive football exploits in his then Monaco team stressed further that Findi as the chief coach of Enyimba International FC of Aba is not doing badly. We must recall that Enyimba is his first ever competitive assignment as a licensed coach and he is performing. The club is not struggling in NPFL.
He added that Enyimba as one of the high profile teams in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is not lacking in technical and tactical abilities. In short, Findi is gradually rebuilding the Aba based multimillions team. The management of Enyimba is not complaining because it knows what the ex-international turned trained coach is impacting into the team.
“His first paid job as a coach with Abia State owned Enyimba is not disappointing at all. It shows how methodical he can be. He is learning fast and by his second tenure we will see a devastating Enyimba team. The side has started to play better as a team than the first stanza of the current season. After that raid of Enyimba by Rivers United you will agree with me that the team is fast rebuilding and Findi is doing a fantastic job there. We should give him a chance to grow. That is the best way to trend. Our younger coaches should be encouraged unparallel. There are many George Findi doing great jobs and we owe it as duty to urge them on and also thumb them up where necessary,” Ikpeba insisted.
He called on well meaning Nigerian football fans to rally round the Super Eagles players and coaches whenever the side is reconstituted for greater confidence. It would be recalled that the Super Eagles will be meeting Sierra Leone one of the teams in her group in June at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja on closed door in AFCON 2023 qualifier.
