The 3rd edition of JOF Nigeria Limited annual U- 13 football tournament is under way with the sponsor, through its Director of Strategic Support Services, Mr. Adeyinka Adetunji revealing that the wholly indigenous Nigerian Company would like to continue to encourage, support and showcase this type of constructive youth events in the country.
In a media parley in Lagos Adetunji added that JOF Nigeria Limited would in this 3rd edition of the U-13 football tournament would carry the following cash prizes as tokens in addition to trophies and other items: the Champion will go with N 350,000, Runners Up N250,000, Third Place N200,000 Fourth Place N150,000.
“We have also made provisions to reward some individual players who have distinguished themselves during the tournament. We encourage all the participants to allow the spirit of fair play guides them in the remaining matches,” Adetunji said.
The finals of this year’s tournament will come up at Campos Mini-Stadium, Adele, Lagos Island as the third-place game will be played earlier at the same venue.
It would be recalled that JOF Nigeria Limited football fiesta announced the date and venue of their U-13 Football tournament which kicked=off March 5, 2022 as then communicated. Adetunji further stressed that this annual championship is organized to promote the development of football at the grassroots and to help discover young talents in Lagos State.
“We are specially thanking the Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association who are the organisers for the giving JOF Nigeria Limited the opportunity to sponsor this sensitive competition. We appreciate your efforts and contributions to the development of sports and discovery of young football talents with prospects of bringing glories to their families and our country,” he declared.
He told his audience that the Chief Executive Officer congratulates all the footballers, their coaches, Managers, parents and supporters for being part of this tournament. At the ages of these young footballers, parents should be conscious of the fact that out door sporting activities should always be considered as an integral part of their leadership developments, apart from the big opportunity to become an international soccer professional one day.
“We want to appeal to you the Sporting Media to kindly inform the World that our youths in Lagos State and Nigeria at large are glad to engage themselves in competitive and positive drives if given the opportunity,” Adetunji informs.
In the same vein, the organisers of the football summit, Lagos Grassroots Soccer Association, Chairman, Reverend Paul Freeman said this association has epitomized the face of grassroots football in Lagos State for almost two decades. Haven organized Youth football competitions of varying age groups, which has led to the discovery of some promising Nigeria football stars.
“What could have been done for Dr. Olusegun Olugboyegun having in mind the development of our youths. if you will all agree with me, we need to extols the virtues of this honourable man, and in fact immortalize his humble name,” he reveals.
The association further said that Dr. Olugboyegun acceptance of this honour could not be achieved, if not for his love for our youths. In this regard, we christened this tournament as a Youths Development Initiative.
“This football summit has gone a long way at motivating youths, foster unity, and promotes healthy rivalry among the teams and spectators. It has also gone a long way in keeping the children off the streets and away from acts of perpetual youthful exuberance,”
The Association also remarked that it will also give our amateur League coaches the ample opportunity to scout for talents, which can uplift the standard of football in our domestic league in the future, as one player from the 2nd edition is now with Lagos State U-13 team. We are hereby assuring you that this is just a piece of the iceberg. This third edition will further expose young talents from all nooks and crannies of this State, The Chairman of Lagos State Grassroots Association, Reverend Paul Freeman assured.
