The Nigeria Players’ Union (NANPF) has requested for statutory funding from the League Management Company (LMC) in the form of payment of minimum 5% of sponsorship and broadcast rights money of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to the union.
The request was one f the decisions reached at the NANPF National Administrative Council’s Meeting held at Samsy Hotel, Benin City, Edo State, on Monday, February 15, 2016.
In the communique of the meeting made available to Daily Sports, the Players’ Union also:
•Asked for compulsory use of Players intermediaries by Players and Coaches to represent them in the Signing and Transfer of Players and Coaches in line with FIFA’s new Regulations.
•Requested Cancellation of the LMC’s Compulsory three (3) years minimum contract agreement for Professional Footballers in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
•Decided to prepare a draft copy of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the Players’ Union (NANPF) and the Leagues (NPFL) and (NNL) Regulating the Economic, Social and Professional Activities of Professional Footballers in the leagues in such areas as Minimum Standard Football Players Contract, Pension and Insurance Schemes, Players Collective Image Rights, Players Minimum Wage, Conditions of Service for Players with all Players playing in the league having copies of their contract documents.
•Made a case for the implementation of Regulations Governing the Administrative procedures of the Status and Transfer of Professional Footballers in the Leagues in line with Global Football Standard (FIFA and CAF Rules) while also commending the LMC’s policy on the Domestic Transfer Matching System (DTMS).
•Requested the Appointment of Union members into relevant Committees of the Federation and Leagues both at National and State levels.
•Expressed concern over the non-compliance of debtor clubs to pay the outstanding debts owed their players and coaches while also demanding for the enforcement of the various decisions of the NFF’s Players Status and Arbitration Committee before the commencement of the 2016 Football League Season.
NANPF commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and LMC “for their creative and innovative leadership of the Nigeria League system and the administration of the game of football in the country.” It said that “in view of this, the Union has decided to honour the Founding Chairman Hon. Nduka Irabor and the present Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Dikko, with special merit awards presentation on the first day of the commencement of the 2016 League Season.”
