Beating Real Madrid Unlikely, But We’ll Try - Tuchel

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 12, 2022

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has said their Champions League chances are slim going to Real Madrid.

Tuchel conceded overturning a 3-1 deficit to reach the semifinals was a long shot.

He said: “Not the biggest chance given the first game’s results and given the competition and the opponent and the stadium. We never manage our input by the chances we have for our result.

“It is unlikely but it is worth trying and trying means that we will play to our fullest and to our full limit. This is what it is, it is a big night.

“You can learn from the last game and use situations and moments from the last game. This is what we will use.

“It cannot be more different. It is one of the biggest challenges to perform as the away team at the Bernabeu, especially if you need a result. It is still worth trying and it is still a stage where you can over perform. We need to over perform. It is a big experience to learn from and maybe experience to take to over perform.

“We wanted it more physical, we wanted it more intense. We face a huge disadvantage in terms of physicality as Real Madrid plays the whole season with five substitutes and we play in the most physical league.

“We could not implement it enough in the first match due their physicality and ability to slow the game down. Last year in the second leg we were very, very intense but we lost ball possession. Ball possession is not the statistic that logically says you don’t have an intense game.

“We struggled with our counter pressing and finding intensity in runs. We will need to find a way to play a more physical game.”
