Manchester City 'still lead the race for Erling Braut Haaland'

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 6, 2022

Manchester City are reportedly in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back Erling Braut Haaland during this summer's transfer window.

The 21-year-old will have a £67m release clause in his BVB deal this summer and is widely expected to move on, with a number of clubs desperate to sign him.

Man City have emerged as leading contenders to sign the Norway international in recent weeks, though, and according to Sky Deutschland, the English champions are leading the race.

Haaland has had his injury problems during the 2021-22 campaign but has still contributed 23 goals and six assists in 24 appearances in all competitions for his German club.

Real Madrid and Barcelona also continue to be linked with the Norwegian, who has netted 80 goals and registered 21 assists in 83 outings for BVB since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg.

However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled his side out of the running, claiming that the Reds would not be able to pay the money required to sign the forward, with the cost of the deal potentially reaching £300m, including agent fees and his wage packet.

Man City attempted to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur last summer but were ultimately priced out of a big-money move for the England captain.
