President of Super Eagles Supporters Club (SESC), Prince Vincent Okumagba has joined well meaning football buffs to hail the appointment of Emmanuel Amuneke to join forces with Austin Eguaveon in the Super Eagles technical crew.
He said in an exclusive telephone conversation with Daily Sports in Lagos that the decision by the Amaju Pinnick led Nigeria Football Federation to assemble this pair would ever remain one of the brightest landmarks towards finding way forward for Nigeria football in recent time.
“The pair of Eguaveon and Amuneke would be great if all hands would be on deck to help make it work accordingly. On that premise therefore, I’m appealing to both former teammates and AFCON 1994 winners in Tunisia to close ranks, have mutual respect for each in other to make this combination to work. The way out of it would be for the two gladiators to see Nigeria as their focal point and ensure that nothing, absolutely nothing would hinder them from working together to turn in the best of results. What Nigerians need most is qualifying the country to the Qatar World Cup tournament starting from the March 23, first leg play-off against arch-rivals, Ghana in Accra and final leg five days later in Abuja,” he said.
Okumagba added that when the news of the appointment of Amuneke was made public after many speculations he heaved sigh of relief and instantly saw light at the end of the tunnel for Nigeria at the forthcoming World Cup play-off against Ghana which first leg is coming up March 23, in Accra and return leg to be played five days later in Abuja.
“My candid appeal would be for the two coaches to see each other as one and also this assignment as a personal challenge and then one that represents over 100million Nigerian fans. The need to cooperate and thinker enduring strategies that would ensure Nigeria will pick the ticket from the pending crucial encounter against Ghana. No doubt this is tight assignment and it is achievable if the minds are one and set collectively for ultimate goal. This pair is one of the best from Nigerian local stable and nothing we should do than to encourage them to reach the desired height,” he appeals.
The SESC President also stressed that the media should always exercise restraint while reporting, analyzing or comparing these two top Nigeria coaches so as not to create disunity amongst them. The things that would forge greater friendliness to work as one should immensely be highlighted for the good of the game. Amuneke he said was a great player upfront while Eguaveon was also a rugged defender therefore, this pair has all it takes to turn in one stop team with adequate technical and tactical inputs to face any crack team no matter the situation.
