President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has explained why former Tanzania head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke was engaged to beef up the technical crew of the Super Eagles adding it was to provide water tight/solid technical link input for the team as against what happened at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations Football summit in Cameroon.
He told newsmen that though Austin Eguaveon tried to bring up the players to cohesion during the AFCON championship foremost kept clean slate at the group stage which no team that participated in the festival in Cameroon did.
“Eguaveon did his best to keep up the tempo until that sad ouster by Carthage Eagles of Tunisia. With the short notice he took over the team for a high profile football competition AFCON calls for commendation because of his thirst for success in service of his fatherland and the kind of confidence he instilled on the boys went a long way to give the apex football governing body in the country to extend his stay as interim technical adviser and the formidable pair with former U-17 and U-20 sweat merchant, Emmanuel Amuneke would give Nigerian players wide technical backup as the March 23, Qatar 2022 World Cup final-off dangles,” he narrated.
Amaju appealed for total support and cooperation amongst the stakeholders and players. He restated the readiness of the NFF to provide every enablement that would adequately aid the technical team and players to succeed. He also believes that the task would be less cumbersome if all hands would be on deck in the over all interest of the country’s quest to be among the finals that would showcase their football showpiece in the November 2022 World Cup hostilities in Qatar.
“The choices of these pair were far reaching and the arrival was unique as it attracted unionism. Our duty as Nigerians would be to rally round them to harness their potentials to full advantage. I will plead for unparallel support for the team. This is essential so that the players would be at home to exhibit their talents without any fear. We have put the set back of AFCON 2021 behind us and earnestly forging ahead for successful play-off against our arch rival, Black Stars of Ghana that would prepare to the teeth against us haven reportedly reconstituted their technical bench recently too,” he recalls.
The NFF supremo further appealed for clam in every true sense of the word. He also gave insight that since normalcy has returned to the technical bench through its reconstitution and beef up too, nothing is left now than for the crew to get down to real business of planning how to go about this all important national assignment in their hands by setting the tone earnestly, he said.
