Rangers manage slim 1-0 win over Akwa United

By Daily Sports on June 12, 2017

Bright Silas scored in the 11th minute to hand Enugu Rangers a 1-0 win over Akwa United.

It was a quick counter after an Akwa United attack when Harmony Akande's pass was intercepted.

Daniel Etor freed Bright Silas in the Akwa United penalty area, Silas took time to pick his spot before slotting behind Ojo Olorunleke.

Akwa United coach, Abdu Maikaba blamed the early attitude of his players for the goal conceded and subsequent loss.

"My boys wasted the first twenty five minutes of the game. We were not able to play until we picked up later," Maikaba said.

Christian Pyagbara was mostly isolated upfront as Ubong Friday and Cyril Olisema did not do enough to get balls to him.

Rangers coach, Chukwuma Agbo told npfl.com that having played Akwa United before in the league, he knew how they would play and neutralized them.

"First they started with 4-3-3 and then changed to 4-4-2 two so it was easy to make changes to match them," Agbo said.

In the 2nd half, Maikaba took off Harmony Akande for Moses Ebiye and later, Gabriel Okechukwu replaced Cyril Olisema.

With a minute left on the clock, Akwa United made a late rally for goals.

Kodjo Dadzie's cross was headed onto the path of Afeez Aremu but his return shot was saved by keeper Mutawakilu
In added time, Moses Ebiye latched on a loose ball but his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper.
