Ex- international Henry Nwosu (MON) has lend his voice to the numerous that are urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to solid back Austin Eguaveon to steer Super Eagles through to the March Qatar 2022 World Cup play- off against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Nwosu who spoke to Daily Sports from his country home in Naze near Owerri added that if the coach is encouraged he will do better than what we saw during the AFCON game against Tunisia.
“My candid view would be that NFF should continue with Eguaveon in this circumstance. He played Ghana during his days and knew inside out the kind of game it would be. The time is too short as I did say, we should get cracking earnestly,” he appealed.
The 1980 Africa Cup of Nations gold medalist stressed the need for total support for Eguaveon to lead the Super Eagles in March game. According to him, he is used to the players and now speaks the language they understand. The return of players’ injury and other thing stopped from honouring the AFCON will be available for the crucial play-off.
“Sincerely what Nigerians need is the ticket to represent Africa in Qatar World Cup tournament and all that is needed now is unflinching support for Eguaveon and his technical crew and then the players. I don’t see how all that are needed to be done are put in place why the team would not qualify. I don’t lose sight of Ghana’s strong strength and arch rival toga in matches against Nigeria. My take is that Super Eagles team is more depth than their counterparts and so ONCE NFF put its house in order then we will get past Ghana no matter the usual stiff opposition,” Nwosu recalls.
He called on Nigerians to put behind them the sad exit of AFCON 2021 round of 16 fiasco and pull their unparallel support for the team and Eguaveon for optimum outing.
“When there is concentration, one spirit, one game, perfect will to deliver as it used to be in the national team then nothing, absolutely nothing will hinder the upbeat delivery of the Qatar World Cup 2022 ticket. One mind, one voice, concrete planning must be the key. We can do it,” he enthused
