Nigerian midfielder John Ogu has joined Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Nof HaGalil after a year without a club, thus sparking congratulatory messages from his national teammates, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Ogu, who has 24 caps for the Super Eagles, posted a picture of himself on his official Instagram account on Monday signing a contract with the club, after being without a club since quitting Saudi Arabian club Al-Adalah in January 2020.
Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi, Odion Ighalo, Obafemi Martins, Samuel Chukwueze, Kenneth Omeruo, Shehu Abdulahi and Joseph Yobo were among several others who congratulated the midfielder.
Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa wrote on Instagram, “So happy for you,” while Francis Uzoho added, “May God be praised brother.”
Also delighted with the 33-year-old player’s new deal is former Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, who wrote, “Glory to God. Congratulations.”
The move means Ogu returns to Israel almost three years after he left Hapoel Beer Sheva.
During his five-year spell at Hapoel, where he made 151 appearances and scored 13 goals, Ogu won the Israeli Premier League title thrice, Israel Super Cup and the Toto Cup, before leaving the club for Al-Adalah following the expiration of his contract in 2019.
In the 2016/17 season, Ogu was ranked on Walla Sports website as the number 1 footballer in Israel by 60 sports journalists and professionals. (Punch)
