El Kanemi Warriors attacker Kingsley Youwei has dedicated his debut goal to the late former Super Eagles manager Shuaibu Amodu.
The former El Kanemi Warriors and Sharks coach died on Saturday in his sleep in Benin City after an a complaint of chest pain on Friday.
The Maduguri Warriors beat Abia Warriors 2-0 in Saturday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match-day 22 clash at the Maiduguri Township Stadium.
Youwei scored the match opener while winger Bata Mohammed grabbed the winner to firm the side 100 percent victory record upon return to the Maiduguri ground.
Youwei said it was sad and unfortunate that Amodu did not live to see him open his goal-scoring account at El Kanemi after he assisted his movement to the Maiduguri-based side.
“Amodu was my coach and mentor; he brought me to El Kameni Warriors in the mid-season break.
“Unfortunately, he was not here to witness my first goal for El Kanemi Warriors..
“I was greatly shocked when the news of his death filtered into our camp this morning (Saturday), it was a big blow to me.
“It was tough to compose myself to play today’s game but on a second thoughst I braved the odds to make him proud.
“So my debut goal for El Kanemi Warriors is dedicated to him and I pray that the Almighty God will grant his soul eternal rest,” said the former Sharks hitman to supersport.com.
Youwei said he was excited to announce his arrival at El Kanemi Warriors with the goal.
“It’s quite marvelous scoring a goal in my first match at El Kanemi Warriors, it’s a sign of good things to come in the days ahead.
“Of course, the goal and victory will give me the confidence to challenge for more goals,” said Youwei.
Youwei is among the eight players El Kanemi Warriors added to their workforce during the mid-season transfer period.
The win against Abia Warriors takes El Kanemi Warriors' total earnings to 28 from possible 63 in the 22-week-old top-flight.
