Novak Djokovic To Miss ATP Cup Amid Australian Open Uncertainty

By Daily Sports on December 26, 2021

World number one Novak Djokovic is reportedly set to skip next month's ATP Cup.

The Serbian helped propel his nation to glory in the maiden edition of the tournament last year, including a two-set victory over Rafael Nadal in the final against Spain.

Djokovic and Serbia were eliminated in the group stage this year, though, and he was originally expected to link up with the national team for the 2022 tournament in Sydney.

However, Djokovic is seemingly set to skip the event, with journalist Sasa Ozmo quoting a source as saying: "Novak is not going to ATP Cup. He is practicing, but he's decided to skip that competition."

The 34-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup with Serbia earlier this month before their defeat to Croatia, who ultimately lost to the Russian Tennis Federation in the final.

With Djokovic still publicly refusing to reveal his COVID-19 vaccination status, uncertainty remains over the Australian Open champion's participation in the Grand Slam tournament next month. (Reuters)
