Alexander Zverev sinks Daniil Medvedev to win ATP Finals title

By Daily Sports on November 22, 2021

Daniil Medvedev’s reign as ATP Finals champion came to an end as Germany’s Alexander Zverev dominated to take the title with a 6-4 6-4 victory in Turin.

Fresh from knocking out Novak Djokovic in a three-set semi-final, Zverev recorded an early break in the third game of the first set against Medvedev, who had seen off Casper Ruud on his return to the final.

The Russian – defending his 2020 title – had no answer to Zverev’s serving prowess as the German stormed to a 6-4 first-set win, taking 89% of his first-serve points en route.

Medvedev was already on the back foot in the first game of the second set as Zverev broke his serve once more, and while the German’s weak second serves hindered him slightly, there was no stopping his march to the crown. Zverev has won the ATP Finals title for the second time following his 2018 triumph, while in the doubles final, Great Britain’s Joe Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram lost out to Frances’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.
