Nigerian star Alex Iwobi says he is enjoying a new lease of life under manager Rafael Benitez at Everton FC. The attacking midfielder has been in good form thus far this season having netted once in three matches in the English Premier League for the Toffees. Iwobi also scored in Everton’s 2-1 over Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup clash last month after being named in the starting line-up Benitez, who joined the club in June this year. The 25-year-old star feels that the Spanish tactician’s intensive training sessions can help him become a better player. “The manager is always talking to me and trying to help me. It’s helped me a lot so far this season,” Iwobi told the club’s official website. “It’s not just me, of course, but the whole team [he speaks to]. My confidence is playing a big part, too. I’m pushing a bit more up the field and getting involved in attacks. Benitez is an accomplished manager having taken charge of some of the biggest football clubs in the world including Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan. “I just need to add more goals and assists, like the manager wants. With the manager, he doesn’t give us any rest, he’s onto us 24/7. This is what we need,” he continued. “You can see everyone’s playing with a lot of confidence. That big motivation is there [to continue achieving positive results]. “We’ve started off very well, but we have to keep going until the end. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.” Iwobi and his Everton teammates are set to face Burnley in a league game at Goodison Park on Monday.(African Football) •PHOTO: Alex Iwobi and Rafa Benitez
