Nigeria’s National Under-19 Boys volleyball team, on Thursday, clinched the 14th position at the 2021 FIVB Under-19 Boys Volleyball World Cup in Tehran, Iran, having lost their last match 2-3 to Thailand.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian boys lost the first two sets 15-25 20-25.
They bounced back to win the third and fourth sets 25-17 28-26, before finally losing the last set 13- 15 and effectively handing Thailand the 13th place position, while they placed 14th to end the 2021 world championship.
NAN recalls that Nigeria was grouped alongside with Poland, Iran, India and Guatemala. Poland won all their four matches to finish with 12 points and top the group, Iran, the host country, won three games with nine points and India won two matches to earn six points.
Nigeria won the maximum three points for the one match they won, while Guatemala lost all their games in the group stage.
The 14th position placement was a repeat performance for Nigeria having finished in the same position at the U-19 Boys Volleyball World championships held in 2019, in Tunisia, NAN reported.
The 2021 FIVB Under-19 Boys Volleyball World championship, which began on Aug. 24, ended on Thursday. (NAN)
