Louis van Gaal has been sacked as Manchester United manager, with the club bringing the Dutchman’s two-year reign to an end on Monday, reports from England said.
“Van Gaal led United to the FA Cup on Saturday but it wasn’t enough to save him after he failed to qualify for the Champions League and received criticism throughout the season for his conservative tactics,” said a Daily Telegraph online breaking news.
“Jose Mourinho is almost certain to take over from Van Gaal, with the former Chelsea manager's arrival expected to be confirmed in the next couple of days,” the report said.
It added: “Van Gaal’s assistants Albert Stuivenberg, Frans Hoek and performance analyst Max Reckers have also gone.
“Paul Gilroy QC is the lawyer there sorting out the formalities. He does lots of work for the LMA.
“Woodward told Van Gaal in a meeting at Carrington, United’s training ground.
“Van Gaal got a £400k bonus for winning cup and will get a £5m pay off. Gilroy is finalising a package now, and we’re expecting a statement/announcement from United at lunchtime.”
