Enugu Rangers head coach Imama Amapakabo says the docked points his team received will not hurt his side’s league title aspirations.
The Flying Antelopes lost their leadership position heading into the matchday 19 clash against oriental neighbours Heartland on Friday thanks to the League Management Company’s (LMC) decision to expel Giwa FC from the ongoing league season due to a rules violation.
The Coal City side pipped the Jos Elephants 1-0 in NPFL matchday 12 clash at the Rwang Pam Stadium which triggered crowd trouble, leading to the Tin City side being asked to play their next three home matches in llorin, Kwara State.
Amapakabo said though the points’ deduction is unfortunate, his side will work themselves back to the summit in no time.
“We earned every point so far in the league through hard work
“LMC never awarded us any points; we worked hard for every point so we will work even harder to get back not only to the summit but to clinch the league crown at the end of the season.
“It’s unfortunate we allowed ourselves to get to an avoidable point where a team will be expelled from the league.
“We worked very hard to earn three points at Giwa FC; now we have lost the points off the pitch.
“LMC is guided by the rules and regulations guiding the league in taking the decision to expel Giwa FC.
“The decision pains us as it has affected our effort to end the first term campaign as leaders, but I’m confident we will overcome the temporary setback,” said the Super Eagles coach to supersport.com.
The goalless draw against Heartland takes Enugu Rangers’ total earnings after the three points deduction to 29 points, two behind new leaders, Rivers United with a game to spare at El Kanemi Warriors. (Supersport.com)
