Mohamed Salah will miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo later this month.
Egypt officially confirmed their 22-man squad on Friday, with Salah’s name not on the list.
It is reported that Liverpool blocked Salah from participating in the Games. Due to the showpiece not coming under FIFA’s jurisdiction, they were free to do so and as a result, the two-time African Footballer of the Year will not make the trip to Japan.
Each country is permitted to name three overage players in their squad otherwise comprised of U23s for the tournament.
With Salah unavailable, Egypt head coach Shawky Gharib has settled on Mohamed El-Shennawy, Ahmed Hegazi and Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh as his overage representatives.
Other notable names included in the squad are Ramadan Sobhi and Salah Mohsen who has been a regular for Al Ahly this season.
Egypt, who won the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations on home soil, have been drawn alongside Argentina, Spain and Australia in Group C. (African Football)
