Giwa FC have once more had three points and three goals awarded against them in this season's Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The latest development follows the club's failure to honour their matchweek 16 game against Akwa United over the weekend at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin.
The League Management Company (LMC), which oversees the Nigerian top-flight, sanctioned the club and also warned them of an expulsion from the competition.
Apart from forfeiting points, the club were also fined by the LMC for breaching the NPFL framework and rules.
Giwa FC, according to the LMC, breached Rule B13.25 of the NPFL framework and rules for the season. That part of the rules states: “Any club that fails to honour its fixture obligation without any reason acceptable to the LMC may be fined the sum of N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira only) payable to the LMC in addition to all expenses incurred by the home team within fourteen (14) days; provided that where the reason adduced is acceptable to the LMC, the fixture shall be rescheduled, otherwise, in addition to the sanctions above, the erring club shall forfeit 3 points 3 goals arising from the match.”
The LMC rejected the reasons by the club for failing to honour their league match against Akwa United on Sunday.
"Consequently, the LMC intends to exercise Summary Jurisdiction and impose on you the following sanctions, (a), Giwa FC shall pay a fine of N250,000 being the sum of expenses including stadium hire, security and other logistics incurred in respect of the match. (b) Giwa FC shall forfeit to Akwa United the three points as well as three goals arising from the match,” it stated.
The Jos club were also reminded of the consequence of failing to "honour three matches cumulatively" based on NPFL Rule 13.28.
The rule states: "If a club fails to honour three matches cumulatively within the league season without acceptable reason to the LMC such a club shall be expelled from the league and its matches played and unplayed shall be cancelled.”
Giwa FC were directed to play three home matches in Ilorin following crowd trouble in their game against Rangers on April 17. The club have now failed to honour their two games in Ilorin with a third against Enyimba scheduled to hold on May 18.
