Ivorian star Eric Bailly says his Manchester United teammates need to be mindful of ‘special’ Villarreal ahead of the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League final.
The two teams are set to meet at the Stadion Energa Gdańsk in a city on the Baltic coast of northern Poland, Gdańsk on May 26.
The match will unite Bailly with Villarreal having played for the Spanish La Liga club between January 2015 and June 2016.
Bailly then joined English Premier League giants United for a reported fee of £30 million and he has described Villarreal as a ‘special’ team.
“It is special. The team made me a better player,” Bailly told United’s official website.
“I played in this team. They beat Arsenal, we need to know that. They’re a good team and I played there before but now my team is United. Now, I come to fight for my team to win the final.”
The 27-year-old disclosed that he still has friends at Villarreal and he is likely to be tasked with man-marking the Yellow Submarine’s dangerous striker Gerard Moreno.
“Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of players. I know their striker, Gerard Moreno,” the Bingerville-born central defender continued.
“He scores many goals. I know the centre-back, the right-back Mario Gaspar, in the midfield I know many players.”
Bailly has played 23 matches across all competitions for United this season and he has helped the Red Devils clinch the 2017 EFL Cup, 2016 FA Community Shield and 2017 Europa League. (African Football)
