Two of the brightest young Nigerian talents in Europe would face off on Sunday when Manchester City host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in a battle for a Champions League place between the third and fourth-placed sides.
Kelechi Iheanacho has said he looks forward to facing Super Eagles team mate Alex Iwobi in a battle for the automatic UCL spot.
The 19-year-old is on a scoring spree after notching his 13th goal of the season from a brace against Southampton last weekend. He’ll face Iwobi whose goals have dried up but not his inventiveness in the middle of the park.
“[Arsenal] are a clever, quick team and I think this will be a very tough game for us, but one we have to win,” Iheanacho told the City website.
“I will be up against my brother, Alex Iwobi, who I know really well from the Nigerian national team – he’s a great player and he’s looking forward to playing against us [too].”
Both players were roommates during the Super Eagles’ pair of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Egypt in March.
City need to win to close the three-point gap between both teams who have seen their campaign blighted by injuries as they lost sight of soar away leaders Leicester and Tottenham.
