Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has denied having any contact with Zamalek regarding their vacant coaching role at the club, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Peseiro, according to an Egyptian website, Kooora, was one of the coaches who submitted their resumes for the top job after the recent sacking of Juan Carlos Osorio for poor results.
The 63-year-old recently signed a new one-year deal with the Nigeria Football Federation after his initial contract expired in June.
The Portuguese tactician, who was recently linked with Zamalek’s job in Egypt, told btolat.com that he remained focused on his current job with Nigeria.
“At the present, all my focus is on the Nigerian national team only,” he said.
“There are no negotiations from Zamalek in any case and I am not thinking about anything else.”
Despite Peseiro’s commitment to the Eagles’ job, some football stakeholders have called for the immediate sacking of the Portuguese tactician following the team’s abysmal performance.
These stakeholders, who spoke to NAN on Monday, said the poor performances recorded by the Eagles were unacceptable.
Former member of the House of Representatives, Godfrey Gaiya, said, “As it is often said, football is not mathematics, and outcomes can surprise the pundits, but even at that, there are often sure bankers.
“How can a star-studded Super Eagles fight so desperately to secure a draw with Lesotho in Uyo?
“What went wrong that a number-153 FIFA-ranked team can stroll into the nest of champions and arrogantly walk away with a point?
“Then, to add insult to injury, we fought so hard to hold on to another disappointing draw with 125th-ranked Zimbabwe.
The Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association, Mouktar Mohammed, said the recent poor performances recorded by the Eagles call for deep soul searching.
“We are walking a tightrope. This last result makes it very difficult for us now,” Mohammed said.
“We have a lot of work to do to get near-perfect results in June 2024, when the qualifications resume.
“We need to look deeper into the problems behind why our Super Eagles are not tops in Africa. A lot of questions need to be answered,” he said.
Meanwhile, an executive member of the NFF, Nse Essien, revealed that the federation wouldn’t hesitate to sack Peseiro if they had the money to pay him off.
“If we had the money, we would be willing to relive him, we’re not happy,” he said.
“Everybody is asking for the sack of the head coach.
“It’s unfortunate that we only have two points from a possible six. We’re in a very precarious situation.”
