Jabar Anifowose scored a brace to help Osun United FC beat visiting Ekiti United FC 2-1 on Saturday in Ilorin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the Match Day 6 encounter in the 2020/2021 Group B1 Nigeria National League (NNL) was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Osun United was on Monday, March 8 banished to Ilorin by the NNL management, to play their home matches at the Kwara Stadium Complex, after it cited breach of COVID-19 protocols in their Match Day 5 clash with Vandrezzer FC on Saturday, March 6 in Osogbo.
Osun United Azeez Alani had a go at Ekiti United goalkeeper with a well directed header but he parried the effort to safety in the 6th minute.
Victor Okeji for Osun United spurred Ekiti United’s goalkeeper Believe Imiete to action again in the 19th minute, after he connected a perfect cross by Seun Akinyemi, a slight aerial touch by the visitors’ goalie put the ball out of play.
Ekiti United’s first real goal threat came in the 25th minute but the visitors’ attempt via Jamiu Onikoko went off target.
Anifowose eventually put the home team ahead in the 27th minute when he tapped home from the 6 yard box as the visitors failed to clear their line from a corner kick.
Osun United goalkeeper, Nurudeen Lateef made two saves in quick succession in the 43rd minute from the free kick by Azeez Yusuf and a rework by Azeez Falolu.
Anifowose completed his brace in the match with just seconds on the clock after the restart in a spectacular fashion.
Ekiti United grew perfectly into the game and dominated possession but a determined Osun United stood their ground to keep the scoreline in their favour.
Sunday Oyebade halved the deficit for the visitors with 10 minutes left on the clock before the final whistle to put the home team under pressure.
Osun United’s Hakeem Olalere did a lot of the defending in the middle of the park to ensure the ‘Omoluabi Boys’ returned to the Osogbo with the maximum points. (NAN)
