New Leicester role thrills Ndidi

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 23, 2023

Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi says his fruitful discussion with Foxes manager Maresca led to him being deployed to an attacking midfielder at the club this season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ndidi who suffered two years of poor form playing in his high-pressure position in front of the defence, looks revived under Maresca after changing from a defensive midfielder to a more attacking number eight role for the Foxes.

And the switch according to the Nigerian is bringing reward.

After nine games, Ndidi has looked far more comfortable since the positional switch was made and he is Leicester City’s second top scorer surpassing his best-ever season in front of goal for the club after scoring three goals and one assist.

“It’s been good, it’s the other side of my game,” Ndidi told told BBC Radio Leicester’s When You’re Smiling Podcast.

“As a child growing up I’ve always been a central defender and then turning into a number six and now enjoying the number eight position.

“It’s just the way I am, having an open mind to play any position I can possibly play on the pitch. Just trying to enjoy football, be myself and enjoy football.”

The Nigeria international also revealed that he ‘laughed’ at reports that he wanted to leave the club this summer, amid links to Nottingham Forest in the final days of the transfer window.

It was reported that Forest had made a bid for him and that Ndidi wanted to move across the East Midlands.
