Liverpool’s Matip’s Injury Woes Continue

By Daily sports on January 30, 2021

Former Cameroon international Joel Matip’s woes continued on Thursday night as he picked up yet another injury.

The 29-year-old central defender suffered an ankle ligament injury in Liverpool FC’s win over Tottenham Hotspur in an English Premier League game.

Matip was substituted at half-time of the Reds’ 3-1 victory, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp later admitting the issue looks to be a serious one.

“Ankle ligament,” Klopp said on the club’s official website.

Matip, who was recently out due to a groin injury, is now set to undergo a scan to determine the severity of the problem.

The towering player has re-joined fellow central defenders Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip on Liverpool’s injury list.

While defensive midfielder Fabinho, who has been operating as centre back this season, missed the clash against Tottenham due to injury.

Klopp discussed whether injuries to Matip and Fabinho give further cause to sign a defender before the transfer deadline on Monday, February 1.

“You can imagine that we think about everything, of course. We thought the whole time, we think the whole time,” Klopp continued.

“it’s about doing the right thing. I’m not picky or whatever… but we need to find the right player. We have players still.

“Not a lot, to be honest, in the defence line it is incredible what’s happening there, it’s really incredible. But that’s it.

Matip has made just 11 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool this season. (African Football)
