Former Cameroon international Joel Matip has handed Liverpool FC a massive boost ahead of the North West Derby.
The Reds are set to host their fierce rivals Manchester United in an early-anticipated English Premier League encounter at Anfield Stadium on Sunday.
Matip has not featured for Liverpool since he sustained an adductor injury against West Bromwich Albion in a league game on December 27.
However, the towering central defender has now resumed full training and he could come into contention for the top-of-the-table Premier League encounter.
“Joel Matip took part in Liverpool’s training session on Friday afternoon as the squad continued with their preparations for the weekend’s encounter against Manchester United.”
“The centre-half was among those hard at work at the AXA Training Centre ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash in the Premier League,” a club statement read.
Liverpool have been hit by injuries this season with central defenders Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez out nursing injuries at the moment.
Matip, who is injury-prone, has played eight matches in the league this season and netted once in the process.
