Where will Jordan Ayew go now that his Aston Villa side have officially been relegated? A dire campaign has come to an end for the storied club.
The Ghana attacker went down with his team at the weekend after losing 1-0 to Manchester United. Marcus Rashford’s 32nd minute goal for United confirmed Villa’s elimination after a poor campaign this season with four games to spare. Eric Black’s side have been disappointing having recorded just 3 wins in 34 games.
So what does Jordan do now? According to experienced Premiership manager Harry Redknapp, the Ghanaian will surely get top flight suitors “Jordan Ayew looks a decent player, and I think he’ll get a move away from Villa this summer,” he told the Telegraph recently.
“But can you say the same about any of the others? I can’t think of another player in that squad who will get a move back to the Premier League. Which means they could go into the Championship with a squad of players on serious money who are happy to wait out the remaining two, three or four years of their contracts.”
Aston Villa are currently bottom of the league with 16 points. Their poor performance saw the sacking of manager Tim Sherwood who was succeeded by Rami Garde. Garde could however do little to solve the situation at the Club after a couple of matches which also saw his dismissal from the Club.
“For me personally I am impressed with what Jordan did. Maybe people were expecting him to do better than what he did but playing in England is not that easy,” former Villa and Ghana star Odartey Lamptey told SportsXtra in Ghana.
With six goals in 28 appearances for the club, he has been a sparkle in the dimness that has been Villa Park. “Different culture, playing three times in a week, training, and all that. Jordan is a material that I am sure the next five years a lot of clubs will fight over, I will not be surprised if one of the big clubs in England grabs him,” Lamptey says.
Villa, for the past three seasons, have been perform last-minute miracles to escape the drop, but luck eluded them this time. Jordan joined them this season from French Ligue 1 side Lorient for about £9.6million and has already been linked with several Premier League clubs including West Ham.
The 24-year old has been eyed by Slaven Bilic who reportedly wants to reunite the forward with cult hero Dmitri Payet – after they both spent time together at Olympique Marseille.
Not just the Hammers, but it’s been about interest from Bournemouth, too. Apparently they will want to pay £6 million for him. Whatever it is, the Ghanaian has played well enough that he will not be lacking suitors.
