Two Nigerian clubs, Enyimba of Aba and Rivers United of Port Harcourt are in continental assaults today in their bid to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage and the CAF Confederation Cup final qualifying rounds respectively.
While Enyimba will play Al Merrikh of Sudan in Khartoum in the CAF Champions League, Rivers United will be guest of Bloemfontein Celtic in South Africa in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Enyimba game will be played at the Al-Hilal Stadium, Omdurman by 2pm, while the second leg is billed for Aba, Nigeria on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. The aggregate winner will qualify to the Group Stage while aggregate loser move to the 2020/21 Total CAF Confederation Cup Playoffs.
While Enyimba will be without prolific forward, Victor Mbaoma, due to injury he sustained during the second leg of the match against FC Rahimo of Burkina Faso, the Sudanese side will be without about five key players who were injured.
The injured players that will likely miss the tie include defenders Amir Kamal and Hamza Dawood, as well as the midfield trio of Mohamed Hashim, Ahmed Hamid and Emadeldin Salah.
Enyimba coach, Fatai Osho has assured Nigerians especially the team followers that they will not disappoint in this first leg as they will do everything best possible to come out with a good result.
“I know it is not going to be an easy tie considering the status of our opponent. We are going to underrate them because they are one of the best in the continent and doing so will be at our peril.
