The announcement of a possible vaccine against COVID-19 has inspired hope around the world, with one impact of this on Spanish football being that fans could return to stadiums before the close of the 2020/21 campaign.
Spain’s secretary for sport and the head of the National Sports Council (CSD), Irene Lozano, has opened the door on this topic after having refused to before.
“I hope that before the end of the season, I believe that the vaccine will allow us to open the stadiums to fans, or at least partially,” Lozano said in an interview with La Sexta.
CSD sources make it clear that this is a hopeful message that does not hide the current reality: the situation is serious and right now it is unthinkable that fans will enter stadiums in the short term.
The only thing that has changed is the prognosis of the different vaccines that are being worked on and that could change this reality. In any case, never immediately.
“This hope can only be realised if we continue to comply strictly with the rules that the health authorities give us: masks, social distance, few meetings and little going out of the house. The situation, right now, is serious,” Lozano added. (Marca)
