Super Falcons winger Stella Mbachu has described his side's draw against the Terenga Lionesses as "shocking".
Falcons were held to 1-1 draw by the West Africans in the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifying match on Friday at the Stade Demba Diop in Dakar, Senegal.
Chioma Wogu gave the reigning African champions the lead in the 45th minute while the Senegalese drew level in the 52nd minute.
Mbachu said she expected the AWCON qualifying clash to be a cake walk for the seven-time African champions.
“I’m really surprised at the result as I thought the encounter would have been a walk-over for Super Falcons.
“That means the Senegalese have improved greatly over the years and that attest to rapid growth of women's football in the continent.
“Well, I thank God the reverse fixture clash is coming up here in Nigeria where the Falcons are expected to rise to the occasion to claim the desired result.
“We have the advantage so there is no cause for alarm. The Falcons will edge out the Senegalese for a place at the 2016 AWCON final in Cameroon,” said the Rivers Angels attacking midfielder to supersport.com.
The return leg comes up on Tuesday at the Abuja National Stadium.
The Falcons defeated the 2016 AWCON hosts, the Indomitable Lionesses, at the 2014 edition in Namibia to lift their seventh title. (supersports.com)
