Nigeria's Super Falcons were held by their Senegalese counterparts in Friday's Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifying game in Dakar.
Interim Nigeria head coach Florence Omagbemi listed Arsenal forward Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie from the start, and it was expected that the Falcons, favourites going into the game, would come away with a win.
The African champions had loads of scoring chances but failed to make them count until late in the first half.
Chioma Wogu, who had only come on for injured Oparanozie in the 44th minute, scored a minute later as Nigeria took a 1-0 lead into the break.
After defending deep in the first half, Senegal's Teranga Lionesses poured forward, showing a desire to take on their illustrious Nigerian opponents and it paid off seven minutes into the restart as they levelled matters inside the Stade Demba Diop.
Bineta Diakhate, who has been impressive in the AWCON qualification for Senegal, benefited from poor defending by Nigeria to equalise for Senegal.
Senegal's goal seemed to only spur on the African champions to attack the Lionesses in an attempt to get a second goal.
However, the Senegalese goalkeeper Ouleye Dieye did well to keep her team in the game as they secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
Nigeria will play hosts to Senegal in the second leg at the National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday. (supersport.com)
