The international friendly between Nigeria and Algeria in Austria this coming weekend will be held behind closed doors, as confirmed by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF).
The teams will meet at the Jacques Lemans Arena in St. Veit an der Glan on Friday 9 October, and earlier media reports had speculated that up to 10,000 fans would be allowed to attend the match.
However, this has been debunked by the FAF, who out out a press release on their official website to state that the venue will not be open to the public.
“Due to the many requests it has received on this subject, the Algerian Football Federation regrets to inform the general public, in particular the supporters of the Greens established in Europe, that the two matches Algeria – Nigeria (on 10/09/2020) and Algeria – Mexico (on 10/13/2020) will take place without the presence of the public (behind closed doors),” read the statement.
“It is therefore useless to travel or pretend to acquire entrance tickets.”
Algeria’s clash against Mexico on October 13 will take place at the Cars Jeans Stadium in The Hague, Netherlands, while Nigeria will remain in St. Veit an der Glan for a friendly against Tunisia, also scheduled for October 13. (African Football)
