Why I Converted Ndidi To Centre Back — Leicester City Manager

By Daily sports on September 23, 2020

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi’s deployment to a centre-back role will be temporary.

This is according to Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers with Ndidi having started two Premier League matches for the team as a central defender.

Ndidi, who is a defensive midfielder by trade, helped the Foxes secure wins over West Bromwich Albion and Burnley in their first two games of the 2020/21 season.

The hard-tackling player has been used as a central defender with Leicester missing Wes Morgan, Jonny Evans and Filip Benkovic.

Rodgers explained that Ndidi will return to his midfielder position when his defenders overcome their injury and suspension issues.

“Wilf is a player that I have real confidence in,” Rodgers said on Goal.

“He played the position [centre-back] very well and he has the attributes to play there. We don’t want him there for a long period of time.”

Leicester are scheduled to face Arsenal in a Carabao Cup match on Wednesday.

Ndidi made 39 appearances across all competitions for Leicester last season. (African Football)
