Mendy ‘Hoping To Join’ Chelsea

By Daily sports on September 4, 2020

Speculation surrounding a move to Premier League giants Chelsea for Rennes and Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy continues to grow.

The 28-year-old, who has eight international caps to his name, is aware of interest from the London club, as per French media outlet L’Equipe.

They claim that Mendy is “hoping to join” Chelsea even though no formal offer has been tabled with Rennes.

The Blues do have a real interest in Mendy, per the source, and are hoping to conclude a move this window.

The Teranga Lions ‘keeper is seen as an affordable potential replacement for Kepa Arrizalabaga, who has struggled to win the confidence of supporters and manager Frank Lampard through a difficult 2019-20 season.

However, Mendy only joined Rennes from Stade Reims in 2019 and still has three years left on his contract, meaning the French Ligue 1 club hold all the cards in potential negotiations.

Mendy, who was born in Montivilliers in northern France, has also been on the books of Cherbourg and Olympique Marseille in his club career, while he was a part of Senegal’s squad at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. (African Football)
